Hey there, seniors!
It’s Aydah and Rose here, your friendly neighborhood doctor’s dogs.
We’ve been sniffing around our human’s office and have picked up some amazing fitness tips, strategies, and resources that we just have to share with all of you!
So, grab your leash (or reading glasses) and let us guide you through the wonderful world of staying active and healthy as a senior in the Nanaimo area.
First off, we want to bark out loud that it’s never too late to start getting active, and it’s always a good idea to start slow and steady. Consistency is key, just like our humans taking us for our daily walks.
Speaking of walking, we’ve heard it’s a fantastic low-impact exercise for seniors. You can enjoy the beautiful trails and parks of Nanaimo, Parksville, Ladysmith, and the surrounding areas of central Vancouver Island.
If you’re looking for something a little more zen, why not try Qi Gong? It combines slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and meditation.
You can find Qi Gong (and Tai Chi) classes offered by Nanaimo Parks & Recreation, where they have a pawsome selection of programs for those 60 and better.
Swimming is another great option for seniors. It’s easy on the joints and offers a full-body workout.
Nanaimo Parks & Rec also offers swimming programs designed specifically for seniors, so you can dive right in and make a splash!
